BLOOD SUPPLIES LOW
Monday, August 30th, 2010 -- 8:32 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Area residents will get the chance to do something about a blood shortage this week.

Bonita Leitza with the American Red Cross says they’re a bit worried about their supplies right now.

"Blood donations have been dropping a bit all summer long, and as we're getting closer to Labor Day, that's a great concern," she says.

Leitza says the drop in donations can be attributed—at least in part—to the hot and rainy weather we’ve had this summer, and the next couple weeks will be critical to keep supplies healthy.

"We are very concerned what happens the remainder of this week and all of next week," Leitza say.

Everyone that donates blood is automatically registered for a drawing to win a $500 gas card and a new car.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Neillsville on Monday (August 30) at the American Legion from 11 to 6. It will be at the Legion Hall in Loyal on Tuesday from 12:30 to 5:30 and at OEM in Neillsville on Thursday from 12-5. Appointments are recommended if you plan to donate on Thursday. You should call 743-3722.
