Northern States Power Company-Wisconsin, an Xcel Energy company, has filed an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) for an increase of
$29 million (5.4 percent) in electric base rates effective Jan. 1, 2011.

The application is limited to higher costs in 2011 associated with long-term investments in cleaner energy sources, new transmission infrastructure and higher fuel and purchased power costs, and does not include any general, administrative or operating expenses.

Under this proposal, a typical residential electric customer would see an increase of $3.66 per month. Increases for commercial and industrial customers will be 4.5-7.0 percent, depending on rate classification and usage levels.
