It’s been six years since a Black River Falls hotel was destroyed by fire. Now, the owner is charged with arson, just before the six-year statute of limitations was set to expire.

Investigators allege 49-year-old Edward Rosenberg set the May 28th, 2004 blaze that destroyed the River Crest Resort. He did so to defraud his insurance company.

Rosenberg’s insurance company initially denied his claim, alleging the fire was intentionally set. The two parties settled last year for $27,500.

According to the criminal complaint, investigators found a burn spot and a wooden matchstick on the carpet near the front door of one of the buildings.
