FORMER ABBY F.D. TREASURER CHARGED

The former treasurer of an area fire department has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the organization.
Robert Standeven, 38, now lives in Chippewa Falls, but he had been the treasurer of the Abbotsford Fire Department.
Authorities say he forged around 34 checks totaling $46,000. He used the money to pay personal bills, including his mortgage between 2006 and January.
The missing checks were discovered early this year when a new treasurer was elected.
Standeven faces a maximum of six years in prison for each forgery charge. An initial appearance is set for next month.
