AREA SCHOOL COULD FACE BIG REFERENDUM
Monday, April 19th, 2010 -- 10:15 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
A large building referendum could be in the cards for residents of the Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan School District.
According the Jackson County Chronicle, the board may seek approval for a $10.4-million high school remodeling project through a November referendum.
The school district is in the middle of a 4-year, $1.2-million cap exemption referendum, which was approved in 2008.
There are a number of maintenance issues at the school. A roofing project has been delayed, a boiler has failed and the school doesn’t have a sprinkler system.
Options range from small-scale improvements, which could be viewed as a band-aid approach, or the complete demolition of the building and construction of a new facility.
