LOCAL HEALTH OFFICIALS: STDS A PROBLEM HERE, TOO

There are an estimated 19-million new sexually transmitted infections occurring every year in the United States.

April is STD Awareness Month.

The Clark County Health Department says STDs are a big problem, even in rural counties like ours.

In 2009, Clark County saw the reported number of chlamydia cases jump from 33 to 48. Chlamydia and Gonorrhea are the most reported infectious diseases in the United States and are among the most serious threats to women’s fertility.

Experts say abstinence, monogamous relationships and condom use are the best ways to prevent the spread of STDs.
