NEILLSVILLE REPRESENTED ON DOG PANEL
Wednesday, March 24th, 2010 -- 2:45 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Two Neillsville men will serve on a new 12-member advisory committee that will recommend standards for animal care and facilities.

The committee’s creation is the result of a new law that will require licensing and inspection for dog sellers and shelters.

Mike Marsch of Neillsville will represent dog breeders selling 50 or more large dogs a year. Chuck Wegner of Neillsville will represent humane societies sheltering fewer than 500 dogs a year.

The group will meet for the first time April 21 and are to complete their work by the end of 2010. Public hearings on the proposed rules will be held in the spring of 2011, and the law will take effect June 1, 2011. The new law requires licensing and inspection for breeders, retailers, shelters and pounds that sell or transfer at least 25 dogs a year.
