JOBLESS RATE UP IN STATE, COUNTY

Unemployment is up in all 72 Wisconsin counties and in all of the largest cities – and Clark Count’s jobless rate is one of the highest in the state.
The state Department of Workforce Development reports (.pdf) the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Wisconsin in January was 8.7%. The national rate was 9.7%
Rusk County had the highest unemployment at 14.3% followed by Iron County at 13.8%. More than half of the state's counties, 44, had double-digit unemployment for the month.
Closer to home, the unemployment rate for Clark County shot up to 12.3% from 10.2% in December. The county’s rank is now 15th worst in the state, up from 21st in December.
Elsewhere, Eau Claire County had the 2nd best unemployment rate (7.6%); Jackson County has a rate of 11.1%; Taylor County has the 3rd highest rate (13.7%) and Wood County has the 39th highest (10.3%).
