A thirsty area community is getting a federal grant to help them find more water.

U.S. Rep. Dave Obey announced yesterday that he secured a $1-million earmark that will help Abbotsford offset the estimated $7 to $10-million project.

Under the proposal, Abbotsford would construct up to 12 new wells, three pump houses and a treatment plant. It could double their current supply of about 300,000 to 400,000 gallons per day.

A number of communities along STH 29 struggle with their water supply. They have discussed the possibility of constructing a pipeline from water-rich Wausau.
