REPORT: WISCONSIN SCHOOLS ABOVE AVERAGE

What grade woud you give your local school.

It turns out Wisconsin gets an above-average grade for overall educational quality, but has a lot of work to do to establish grade-level academic standards and a method to hold failing schools accountable.

Education Week gives the Badger state a C-plus for the overall status of its schools and improvement efforts. That’s slightly higher than the nationwide ‘C’ average. Wisconsin has the 16th best schools, according to the study.

The state's lowest ranking came in the area of standards, assessments and accountability, with a C grade placing it 42nd in a category where 20 other states received grades of A or A-minus.

Changes are already in the works. Wisconsin has signed on to an effort to unify the country’s educational benchmarks. The DPI has also announced plans to scrap the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Examinations and replace them with a more streamlined test that will supply schools with more timely information.
