An area state lawmaker wants to give families a tax break.

Rep. Scott Suder has introduced a bill that would increase the Wisconsin Child Tax Credit and bring it in line with the federal credit.

According to a press release from his office, the state currently allows a $700 income tax credit for each dependent in the household; the bill would allow a $1,200 credit.

The proposed $500 increase included in the bill would match the recent federal increase in the credit. The bill has gained numerous cosponsors in both the Senate and Assembly and is awaiting action in both houses.

The bill will first go to the Joint Survey Committee on Tax Exemptions and is awaiting action from the chairpersons of the committee. It could get a hearing this month.
