Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

The Neillsville man tied to a Sparta double-homicide investigation was back in court yesterday. 37-year-old Larry Schaffer had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf to charges of third-degree sexual assault for the 2001 rape of a woman in Monroe County. Schaffer, who lived in a Hewett Street apartment, was arrested on May 29. The Monroe County District Attorney said Schaffer might be connected to a 2002 double homicide, but hasn’t offered more details. Another man named in the 3-year-old killings was found dead in a Sparta Creek over the weekend. Authorities are waiting for autopsy results before announcing how 37-year-old Troy Hogan died. Schaffer remains in Monroe County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
