HELP ON THE WAY FOR FARMERS
Monday, December 21st, 2009 -- 2:36 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Some financial help is on the way for farmers.

This week, the USDA announced their new Dairy Economic Loss Assistance Payment program. The 2010 agricultural appropriations bill authorized $290 million for loss assistance payments to eligible dairy producers. The USDA says on average, the price U.S. dairy producers received for their milk this summer was only about half of their production costs. Eligible producers will receive a one-time direct payment based on the amount of milk both produced and commercially marketed by their operation during the months of February through July 2009.
