MILK PRICE UP IN OCTOBER

The October milk price for farmers was up from September, but down significantly from October of last year.

The USDA says the October Class III milk price is $12.82 per hundredweight, up $71-cents from September, but $4.24 below year-ago levels. The 2009 average is now at $10.72, down from $17.84 in October 2008. The Class IV price is also up 71 cents from last month at $11.86, but $1.76 below last year.

Wisconsin Ag Connection reports dairy product prices were higher on Friday's National Ag Statistics Service's Weekly Cheddar Cheese Survey. The price of 40-pound blocks for Minnesota-Wisconsin averaged $1.50, up a penny from last week's price, while 500 pound barrels were three cents higher at $1.53.
