NEILLSVILLE WINS FIRST PLAYOFF GAME IN 8 YEARS
Wednesday, October 28th, 2009 -- 6:47 am
Posted by Larry Hoeser, Sports Director

The Neillsville Warrior football team has had their share of close games this year and the Level 1 playoff game at Baldwin last night was no exception as they hang on to beat Baldwin-Woodville 14-12. After a scoreless first half, the Blackhawks scored first on a 26 yd field goal with 3:46 to go in the third quarter. Neillsville then drove down the field and got on the scoreboard with a 1 yd run by Mitchell Erickson with 2 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter. Neillsville scored again with 6:49 to go in the game on a 1 yd quarterback sneak by Cain Trunkel to make the score 14-3. Another field goal by Baldwin-Woodville closed the score to 14-6 with 3:46 to play. Trying to run out the clock and forcing Baldwin-Woodville to use up their time-outs, Neillsville went for it on 4th and 1 inside the Blackhawk's 40 but were unsuccessful and a couple of plays later Baldwin-Woodville scored on a 60 yard pass play to close to within two but Neillsville stopped them on the 2 point conversion try, then recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. It's Neillsville's first playoff win since 2001 and the Warriors now play host to Northwestern this Saturday at D.E. Peters Field.
