HEATING COSTS COULD GO DOWN

As we head toward the heating season, there could be some very good news.

The price of natural gas is expected to level off and possibly even go down this year.

The fuel's price fell Wednesday to its lowest point in nearly 7½ years - and has dropped by nearly 80% since its peak more than a year ago. Experts says the downturn in manufacturing has shrunk the demand.

Alliant Energy Corp. is advising customers that they could see home heating costs fall 20% to 25% --or $200-- during the six-month winter heating season.
