GYPSY MOTHS BEWARE: PLANES WILL SPRAY THE PEST WEDNESDAY
Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 -- 12:24 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Nine sites in two west-central Wisconsin counties are scheduled for aerial spraying on Wednesday, June 1, by yellow spray planes as part of the Wisconsin Cooperative Gypsy Moth programs' efforts to slow the spread of this destructive forest pest.

Low-flying airplanes are scheduled to make an early morning wake-up call to residents living in and around sites in Clark and Jackson counties.

In Clark County sites in the towns of Levis, Washburn, Sherwood, Butler and Foster will be sprayed.

The spraying is necessary to control the spread of gypsy moth, a destructive pest that feeds on the leaves of oaks, maples and many other types of trees and shrubs. Spraying begins about 5 a.m. and will continue until that day's spray plan is complete and as weather conditions allow.
