S.O. SEEKING MORE ANONYMOUS TIPS

The Clark County Sheriff’s Department is trying to get the word out about a confidential tip line.

Chief Deputy Jim Backus of the Clark County Sheriff’s Department says this is the 2nd year that the special phone number – 1-888-TIP-CLSO – has been operational.

"We a have received a few tips, but we actually expected to have more calls on there," Backus says. "We kind of think it's our fault for not getting the word out there."

The concept is simple. Tipsters that don’t want their identities known can call the tip line, which is automated. They bypass dispatch.

"They don't talk to anybody. Sometimes, people are concerned if they talk to someone that identification may be known. This way, no one talks to them and it goes right to a voice mail."

The system then emails investigators who follow up on the tips.
