DOT REGIONALIZING; HIGHWAY COMMISSIONERS FEAR REDUCED SERVICE

Highway Commissioners around the state are concerned as the DOT makes the shift from “districts” to “regions”.

In a cost-cutting move, the state has decided to realign the DOT. In Clark County’s case, that will mean moving from 8-county “District 6” to 20-county “Northwest Region”.

Clark County Highway Commissioner Randy Anderson says they’re worried services will be reduced.

"We're afraid what we deem our 'local projects' will be put on the backburner," Anderson says. "They're going to be stretched so thin, they'll only be able to get the state program out. The local program will just sit on the desk somewhere."

Anderson is serving on a committee of state highway commissioners who are looking into this change.

"It impacts so many people and services. Hopefully we can make it seamless to the public - if that's at all possible," Anderson says.

While the change wasn’t supposed to have taken place until the end of May, Anderson says much of the realignment is already complete.
