WELL KNOWN NEWS MAN PASSES

The award-winning news director of an area TV station passed away Saturday.
John Hoffland was 64. He reportedly died of natural causes at his home.
Hoffland was news director at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire for 25 years.
The Viroqua native was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam.
Perhaps his crowning achievement was the implementation of a 5 p.m. newscast in 1981, which was quickly copied by TV stations around the country.
