Nominations Needed for Annual Granton Honorees
Plans for the 59th annual Granton Fall Festival are underway with the event scheduled for September 11th to 13th this year. Nominations for the honored grandparents are currently being accepted. The final selection of the winner is determined from essays submitted by youth on the topic “Why My Grandparents Are Special.”
The winners will receive recognition by riding in the Sunday parade, which is actually Grandparents Day in America. The Granton FFA Alumni sponsors the Honored Grandparents Award. All nominations and essays are due July 15 and should be sent to Cheryl Steinbach, Granton High School, 217 North Main Street, Granton, WI 54436.
Nominations of the honored citizens of Granton are also being accepted. It may be an individual or a couple who resided in the Granton area most of their life. The winners selected will lead the festival parade. Nomination letters highlighting what the candidates have done for the Granton community are also due July 15 and may be sent to Steinbach, as well. The Honored Citizen Award is sponsored each year by the Granton Rotary Club.
The annual festival has become a homecoming event for the Granton community and many former residents. The committee is working hard to plan another fun-filled family weekend, with this year’s theme being “Octoberfest in September – Celebrating Our German Heritage”.
