GUILTY! NEUMANN JURY REACHES VERDICT
Friday, May 22nd, 2009 -- 3:40 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A jury of six men and six women found Leilani Neumann guilty of 2nd degree reckless homicide Friday.

After deliberating for 4 ½ hours, the jury returned the unanimous verdict at 3:30 p.m.
During closing statements, Marathon County District Attorney Jill Falstad called the Weston woman a political extremist.

Leilani Neumann was charged for allowing her 11-year-old daughter, Madeline, to die of untreated diabetes. She told investigators she believed Madeline would be healed by prayer.

The somewhat unprecedented case ties together religious freedom, modern medicine and the Constitution.

Sentencing could be scheduled next week.
