Thursday, May 21st, 2009 -- 10:23 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Another whooping cough outbreak in the area.

Seven students in the Auburndale School District have tested positive for pertussis.

Most of the cases are at the elementary school.

The students have been encouraged to take antibiotics. An immunization clinic could be set up at the school next Thursday.

Pertussis has symptoms much like the common cold, but usually is accompanied by violent, dry coughing spells.

The last big Whooping Cough outbreak was in Greenwood in the fall of 2007. More than 30 cases were confirmed.
