STIMULUS MONEY WILL HELP SUMMER WORK PROGRAM

Federal stimulus money has been earmarked to provide young Clark County workers with expanded summer employment opportunities.

The West Central Wisconsin Workforce Resource, a partner with the Clark County Job Center, will be able to triple the size of its summer work program, but needs the help of area business, public entities and non-profits to succeed.

"We're providing youth with summer employment, either at public works sites, or, if we can subsidize the wages, at a private site," says Jody Connor at the Clark County Job Center.

Officials is seeking both would-be employers and employees for the program.

The program has been around for years, but the numbers in Clark County have dwindled from around 100 in the 1980s to just a dozen last year.

"We have a lot of people come to work at schools, we have people work at Humane Societies, libraries. We have not done a lot in recent years with private companies, because of reductions in funding," Connor explains.

Anyone with questions should contact Jody Connor at the Clark County Job Center: 743-4631.
