GOOD SYRUP YEAR SO FAR
Monday, April 6th, 2009 -- 2:12 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
Higher prices and a strong sap run have Wisconsin's maple syrup producers feeling hopeful this season.
Early prices have been high in New England, with one Vermont store selling syrup for more than $80 per gallon.
The executive director of the Wisconsin Maple Syrup Producers Association says prices here will likely be lower, but still good. Gretchen Grape says some Wisconsin producers could get $40 to $50 per gallon.
Wisconsin was fourth in maple syrup production last year, behind Vermont, New York and Maine.
