SMOKING BAN POPULAR

Some people oppose smoking bans on principle, but citizens tend to like them.

A year after it went into place, a new poll shows most Marshfield residents support the ban on smoking in public places.

70% of the 400 residents polled said they supported the ban.

Officials are touting the results as evidence a statewide smoking ban should be passed.

Gov. Jim Doyle's 2-year budget recommendation to the Legislature includes a statewide smoking ban that would apply to all bars, restaurants and workplaces. It would take effect about two months after the bill was signed.
