STRATFORD MAN CHARGED WITH FELONY MURDER

A man suspected in the death of a Stratford woman made his initial appearance in Marathon County Circuit Court Monday afternoon.
Authorities have charged 28-year-old Eric Mayer with Felony Murder – Sexual Assault. The charge implies authorities believe Mayer did not intend to kill the victim, but was guilty of sexually assaulting her, and that assault led to her death.
On-line court records show Mayer lives in Stratford. He’s never been accused of a violent crime, but has several drug-related convictions.
Court records indicate Mayer called 9-1-1 after he struck the victim, Cynthia Tyler, in the head and couldn’t wake her up.
The death occurred on the southeast side of Stratford early on Saturday morning.
Mayer was ordered held on a $100,000 cash bond.
