TORNADO DRILL TODAY (THURSDAY)
Thursday, April 21st, 2005 -- 10:51 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

This is National Severe Weather Awareness Week and today is the annual Tornado Drill. The mock tornado watch begins at 1 p.m. and the mock tornado warning will be from 1:30-1:35 p.m. The drill concludes when the mock tornado watch ends at 2 p.m.

Jennifer Lord-Kouraichi of the Clark County Emergency Management Department says people in the area should not be alarmed when the sirens go off this afternoon.

"Most of the cities will be setting their tornado alarm, which is a three-minute wavering tone," Lord-Kouraichi explains, "What people are urged to is think about what they would do in the event there was an actual tornado and do a test drill."

Officials hopes families, businesses and schools will use this opportunity to plan for severe weather.

Last year, the National Weather Service confirmed 36 tornadoes in Wisconsin, including 17 that hit on June 23, 2004 alone.
