E-mail scams are nothing new, but a particularly heinous one prompted an elderly Neillsville man to contact authorities.

According to a police report, the man received an e-mail from a “Don Blast.”

The e-mailer claimed he had been hired to kill the man, but he would be spared if he paid an undisclosed fee.

The e-mailer also warned that he would be killed if he contacted authorities.

Police investigated and found the e-mail was indeed a scam.
