NEILLSVILLE MAYOR LAUDS LISTEMAN
Monday, April 18th, 2005 -- 2:46 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

“Christmas in April” is how Neillsville Mayor Diane Murphy described the portion of last week’s city council meeting where tens-of-thousands of dollars in Listeman Foundation donations were appropriated.

During the meeting, the city appropriated numerous donations, including:
  • $15,000 for a sidewalk extension
  • $8,000 for Christmas decorations
  • $2,000 for Heritage Days

The largest donation, however, was $50,000 from the Harold Naedler Trust, part of the Listeman Foundation. That payment represents the first payment of a promised $250,000 for the new American Legion Hall facility.

Last week on the Mayor’s Office program, Murphy said she’s talked to other community leaders around the area and none have anything like the Listeman Foundation.

"It's just great. It's just unbelievable what we have in this city becuase of the Listeman Foundation," Murphy said, "And now the money from the tech school and for this new Legion (Hall) came from Harold Naedler's money. When he died, he put his money in that fund."

"I just think it's wonderful."

Curt and Marguerite Listeman were prominent figures in Neillsville who did well financially; upon their death, their estates were left to the foundation, which began in 1960. It’s estimated over $3-million in Foundation monies have been awarded to worthwhile projects within a 20-mile radius of Neillsville since its inception.
