The City Council moved to petition the state and federal government for grant money Tuesday night.

The Airport stands to collect over $220,000 in aid that will be used to purchase snow removal equipment and build a facility to house it, and install an above-ground fueling system.

Airport manager Duffy Gaier said the snow removal equipment will really come in handy.

"We've always had some dangerous snow banks on the south side of the runway," Gaier said, "We've been using a truck with a 10-foot plow, but we couldn't get the snow off far enough so we'd have to hire sub-contractors to come in with snowblowers to blow the banks off becauase they were so dangerous."

The City has to provide a 2.5% match to the grant money, but that money has already been set aside for the projects.
