A Jackson County case is one of at least eighteen legal actions brought against Amish in Wisconsin and upstate New York over the past 18 months for building without the proper permits.

Daniel Borntreger's home was built without a permit.

The Amish faith says they should live apart from the world. They feel their beliefs supersede government regulations.

The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty plans to file a federal lawsuit in New York soon arguing the Amish's religious beliefs supersede building codes.
