FARMERS WORRIED ABOUT METHANE TAX
Monday, December 8th, 2008 -- 11:33 am
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

Farmers are worried the government may tax greenhouse gases released by their cows.

According to reports, the EPA may start regulating greenhouse gases. It could mean farmers will have to pay a new livestock tax for their carbon-based emissions.

The issue arose this summer when EPA issued a notice that it is considering regulating greenhouse gases for automobiles and possibly for “stationary sources of air pollutants.”

The American Farm Bureau Federation has gone on record stating that a greenhouse gas tax on cows and other farm animals would force producers out of business and result in higher food prices for consumers.
