COUNCIL APPROVES ROOM TAX
Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 -- 1:40 pm Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
The city of Neillsville will have a hotel room tax.
The City Council passed a 3% room tax at a meeting last night. The ordinance creating the tax also creates a permitting process for hotels and motels and gives the city permission to audit establishments they believe are withholding the tax revenue from the city.
100% of the tax revenue will go to the city. 70% will be used for tourism promotion and development; 30% will go to parks and recreation.
The tax goes into effect January 1, 2009.
The Council approved a $30,000 grant to Fabricating Specialists, a division of Mayville Engineering Corporation.
Plaques were given to Scott Schmidt and Don Streiff for their 17 and 16 years of service to the Neillsville Fire Department.
