WEDNESDAY IS LAID BACK AT FAIR

In the barns Wednesday, FFA and 4-H kids were busy gussying up as part of the herdsmanship competition.

Megan Nork of the Greenwood FFA was helping friends decorate with a long banner. It was just taking shape and featured a bucolic seen of pasture and sun.

"It states basically what we represent," Nork described, "(It says) Step Up and Stand Out with Greenwood FFA."
"It's so much fun for me. It's just great."

Nine year-old Megan Statz of Neillsville was one those decorating. She's showing a cow this year.

"She's small and she's friendly," Statz boasted, adding she hoped to win a blue ribbon.

Katie Hamel is a member of the Thorp FFA. She was in the sheep barn Wednesday afternoon with her black-faced Suffolk lambs.

"I like sheep because they're not tiny, but they're still small enough that you're able to handle them really well. They're fun to work with. You develop a bond to them after working with them all summer," Hamel says.

Katie and her two younger brothers camp-out on the Fairgrounds, although one of the boys drives home to help with chores.

"This is the time of the year that you get to be with everybody again, talk with all your friends, be with all your animals and just have a good time."
