Neillsville’s City Council scheduled a special meeting on Thursday to accept a state grant.

Thursday morning on the Mayor’s Office, Neillsville mayor Diane Murphy broke the news that Neillsville’s will be receiving a $100,000 Brownfield Grant to help clean up the old Neillsville Foundry property.

"This is great news for the City of Neillsville," Murphy said.

She explained that the City is working with O' Neil Industries, the Listeman Foundation and the State Department of Natural Resources to clean the property.

Murphy says the buildings will be taken down and the site completely rehabilitated.

One scenario that has been discussed - and Murphy said she believed would happen - would have that parcel of land donated to the city, who would in turn offer it to the Neillsville Hockey Association to be home to a new ice rink.
