FIRED SCHOOL BUS DRIVER CLAIMS DISCRIMINATION

A discrimination complaint has been filed against the Neillsville school district in regards to last fall’s firing of a school bus driver.
The Clark County Press reports 59-year-old Joel Elmhorst has filed a complaint with the State Department of Workforce Development, Equal Rights division.
After finishing a morning route last year, Elmhorst failed to inspect her bus after her drop-off. She drove home. When preparing for her mid-day route a few hours later, she realized there was still a child on the bus, who’d apparently fallen asleep.
After an open hearing, the school board elected to terminate Elmhorst. In her complaint, Elmhorst claims other bus drivers have also made mistakes and not been fired.
The school has two weeks to respond to the complaint. The school will be discussing this matter with their legal counsel this week.
