FOOD DRIVE A BIG SUCCESS

Area residents were in a giving mood over the weekend, and area food pantries are the beneficiaries.

The Letter Carriers Food Drive was held Saturday.

"We set a new record by far with 5,344 lbs. of food," explains Mark Cook of the Neillsville Post Office, "That's about 1,500 pounds more than we've every collected before."

As we've reported, area food pantries are experiencing increased demand because of the sour economy.

They were happy to accept the donations.

"They're already at the food pantries. They went to two food pantries right here in Neillsville and some of it went to a food pantry in Granton," Cook says, "They were tickled. All their shelves were bare. It went a long way to filling them up for awhile."

Cook thanked area businesses for their support of the food drive this year.
