UPDATE: COIN FLIPPED, CHALLENGER WINS
Thursday, April 3rd, 2008 -- 12:05 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

For a split second, the fate of a Clark County Board race was hanging in the air… literally.

Loyal-area board member Chuck Rueth and challenger David Clintsman tied with 93 votes in Tuesday's election.

Following statute, the Board of Canvassers, led by County Clerk Christina Jensen, relied on a flip of a coin Thursday morning.

After determining what the outcomes would mean, the coin was flipped.

The Thomas Jefferson Silver Dollar landed tails up, giving Clintsman the win; however, seeing the margin of victory was less than 10 votes, Rueth has the right to request a free recount. No word on if he plans to do so.

--The canvassers also found write-in candidate Chris Weyer-Parker picked up 9 more votes than originally counted, increasing her margin of victory to 99-84 over incumbent Bill Elmhorst of the Town of York.
