WOOD CO. WOMAN COULD FACE ANIMAL MISTREATMENT CHARGES

A Pittsville-area woman who surrendered 84 dogs to local animal shelters this month could face criminal charges stemming from allegations of animal mistreatment, officials say.

Darlene Reno, 64, turned over the dogs to humane officers on March 6 after an anonymous caller reported dead animals at her farm.

Humane officer Nancy Powell served Reno with orders to provide proper food and water for all animals in her care and promptly clean up animal waste. Failure to comply could result in criminal charges.

Assistant district attorney John Henkelman says Powell has since recommended criminal charges. He says he won't make a decision until the investigation is complete.
