NEILLSVILLE WATER RATE INCREASE NOW IN HANDS OF PSC

Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

A 25- to 35-percent water rate increase for the city of Neillsville is now in the hands of the state’s Public Service Commission.

A public hearing on the increase was held on Thursday at City Hall. No one from the public spoke at the hearing. City Clerk Rex Roehl was told by PSC officials that their final decision will likely come within the next week to 10 days.

The city applied for the increase after determining the current rate is not providing an adequate rate of return and there are plans to perform a costly painting of the water tower and main replacements.

If approved by the PSC, the average residential customer would pay over $10 more per quarter. June 1st is the tentative start date with customers experiencing the increase for the first time when they open their October bills.
