COST OF FIRE CALLS GOING UP IN GREENWOOD
Thursday, February 21st, 2008 -- 1:52 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

It will cost you more to have a fire tended to in Greenwood.

According to this week's TRG, the Greenwood Fire Department has upped the fee to respond to fires from a flat $500 fee to a charge that could be double that.

The department will charge a $600 flat fee and an $18 per hour charge for each firefighter that responds. According to the report, the average call takes 12-15 firefighters. Under the new fee structure, the average fire would cost the occupant around $1,000.

Officials say the move was prompted by increasing costs, including the salary for volunteer firefighters, which will jump from $12 to $18 per hour. They hope the increased will generate more interest from volunteers.
