AREA RESIDENTS ENCOURAGED TO SEEK FLU SHOT
Tuesday, December 14th, 2004 -- 7:44 pm
Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director

With new, relaxed requirements in place that will greatly increase the number of people eligible to receive flu shots, area health departments are encouraging folks to get vaccinated.

After starting the year with no flu vaccines, Kathy German of the Clark County Health Department says they received 300 doses thanks to reallocation from Vilas county.

Of the 300 doses, only 50 have been administered. German says the combination of emergency rules that limited who was eligible to receive the shots and the generosity of those who were eligible may have combined to prevent people from getting vaccinated.

With the peak flu season still on the horizon, there is still time to get your shots. In fact, if you’re eligible, you’re strongly encouraged to do so, seeing it’s thought that far fewer people are protected against the flu this year than in years past – and that could spell trouble. Here in Clark County, the Health Department holds flu shot clinics at the Clark County Courthouse every Monday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and they have scheduled a special clinic in Thorp for Thursday, December 16th from 1 to 3 p.m.
