FUND WILL HELP WOMEN GET MAMMOGRAMS

A new fund at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville aims to help people afford mammograms.

The Gross Motors Mammogram Fund is inspired by Peggy Gross' personal triumph over breast cancer. Peggy and Wayne Gross organized a vehicle sale this past October (National Breast Cancer Awareness Month), where $50 from each vehicle sold was contributed funds to the mammography departments at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville, Krohn Clinic in Black River Falls, and Marshfield Clinic in Marshfield.

"We've received $1,350," says Amanda Dux in Patient Financial Services. "It will make it more accessible for women to get mammograms when they have trouble with the cost barrier."

Health officials say early detection is key to beating breast cancer.

"According to the American College of Radiology, they recommend women between the ages of 35 to 40 have their initial baseline mammogram done," Dux notes.

Women should have an annual mammogram beginning at age 40.
