SEX OFFENDERS MAY HAVE SPECIAL HALLOWEEN RULES

Halloween is Wednesday

If you want to give away candy, make sure you turn your porch light on. Neillsville Police Chief Brad Lindner says a darkened house is a sign the occupant doesn't want visitors—but it may also signify the resident can't participate.

"Anyone who is currently on supervision through Probation and Parole if they've committed a sex offense, they're being requested to have their lights off and not participate in activities of Halloween," Lindner explains.

That's a condition of probation, not a state law, Lindner notes.

Concerned parents can visit the Wisconsin Department of Justice's on-line sex offender registry.

But, while sex offenders have received a lot more media attention over the past few years, don't let it wreck your family's Halloween. Lindner says Halloween has always gone smoothly here in Neillsville.

"Sex offenders have always been around in our area. Those type of people are always around so everyone always has to be cautious," Lindner says.
