MARSHFIELD WOMAN FACES CHILD NEGLECT CHARGES

A Marshfield woman is charged with neglecting her young children by locking them in their rooms for up to 14 hours at a time while she drank.
Court records say Elaine Verkilen put her children to bed by 5 p.m. and locked the doors. The kids are two and three.
Authorities say both children were put in diapers, even though the older one was potty-trained, so they wouldn't need to use the bathroom.
Court documents say the children sometimes woke up during the night, pounded on their bedroom doors and knocked on the windows to get out, so Verkilen boarded up the windows.
Verkilen is charged with two counts of child neglect.
A $2,500 signature bond was ordered for Verkilen.
