A company installing a new oil pipeline across Wisconsin says it quickly made changes in its construction practices after being served notice of violations of its environmental permit.
The Department of Natural Resources issued the notice to Houston-based Enbridge Energy Company, requesting that new construction of the 321-mile pipeline between Superior and Delavan stop until the project could be brought into compliance.
Enbridge spokeswoman Denise Hamsher says the company got the notice September 17th, sent a management team to Madison the next day and made mutually agreeable changes that allowed work to resume the following day.
The Wisconsin Wetlands Association says there were 117 of the violations.
The group has opposed the pipeline project in the past. It's now urging the DNR to file for a temporary injunction to stop construction until adequate steps are taken to prevent violations.
