Firday, September 15th is the registration deadline for this year’s Clark County Clean Sweep. The sweep will be held at highway garages in Owen and Neillsville on Friday, September 29th and in Loyal Saturday, September 30th.

This is the first countywide clean sweep in four years.

“The purpose of a Clean Sweep is to bring in hazardous material,” explains Nick Schneider of the UW-Extension office.

In order to participate, you need to sign up by this Friday (September 15th). Schneider says budget limitations dictate this will be a first come, first serve event.

“If people think they can just clean out the garage the day before… this year, there’s a very good chance they’re going to get sent home with it,” Schneider says. “If we run out of funds, we’re done collecting materials.”

Schneider says around $50,000 of hazardous material was swept during the last sweep in 2002.
