A Tomah woman is accused of stealing more than $240,000 from her employers and their personal bank accounts over the past decade.

47-year-old Barbara Daniells was charged yesterday with seven counts of theft by an employee in a business setting. Daniells, who admitted the thefts to investigators, has re-paid $25,000 of the money she is accused of stealing while working as office manager for Great Rivers Irrigation.

According to a criminal complaint, beginning in 1995, Daniells stole the money by cashing checks that were supposed to be deposited into the business’ bank account.

When she was confronted about the checks in September, Daniells admitted she had been cashing checks, stated she knew it was wrong and apologized profusely to the owners, the complaint said.
