ZIEN ANNOUNCES REELECTION BID
Thursday, June 15th, 2006 -- 10:01 am Posted by Riley Hebert-News Director
Saying there’s “lots left to do”, a western Wisconsin Republican announces his reelection bid. Dave Zien (R-Wheaton) has served in the State Senate since 1993. This November – in one of the highest profile contests in the state – the outspoken Zien will be challenged by former WEAU-TV news anchor Pat Kreitlow (D-Chippewa Falls). “The opponent I have is the Teachers’ Union and the trial lawyers,” Zien said Wednesday at the Highground Veterans’ Memorial Park. “Those are the people that have wanted me out ever since I took office.” “Some of the reasons for our high healthcare in this state is the numerically large number of lawsuits. We’re a lawsuit-happy society,” Zien complains. This week, Senate Democrat Judy Robson accused Zien of being a “one-issue” legislator, who’s only focused on concealed carry. “It’s all about guns with that guy,” Robson snapped. Zien calls the remark jealousy. “I don’t know if Judy any legislation passed this past session. I was the main other of Eminent Domain, Cash For Gas, I was the main author of Bow-Fishing at night – that was very important to a number of people out there.” Even some Zien supporters acknowledge the Senator’s Harley-riding, flamboyant personality grates some the wrong way; Zien says he’s just enjoying himself. “I feel strongly in the power of the individual. I don’t know if it’s persona… it’s just a deep, deep motivation to help people be healthy strong and successful,” Zien says. Zien is spending the week touring the 23rd State Senate District announcing his candidacy.
